• What are Reusable Menstrual products?

Reusable Menstrual products are an alternative to conventional disposal items for menstruation and incontinence. The main difference is that they are cleaned and reused instead of being thrown away. There is a growing range of items on the market such as cups, pants, and pads.

  • Why should I switch to reusables?

There is a multitude of reasons to make the switch to reusable menstrual products it’s all about finding the right product for you. Despite the initial upfront cost, reusable menstrual products can save large amounts of money long term, reusable pads can last up to 5 years and cups can last up to 20 years! In addition, the reduction of plastic and chemicals make for a much comfier and healthier period.

  • How do I clean my reusable pads?

Every reusable menstrual product option has slightly different washing advice depending on the materials they are made from, so always confirm the correct washing with the company you bought from.

If you have our period pads we recommend a machine wash at less than 60 degrees. We advise washing in a laundry bag to reduce the risk of damage to buttons. Do not use fabric conditioner as this can damage the absorbency. Do not tumble dry. Iron on a low temperature. You can also handwash if you prefer.

  • What is The SuPer Project doing to fight period poverty?

We launched our project specifically with the aim of reducing period poverty in the UK which is why for every pad we sell we donate one to someone in the UK living in or at risk of period poverty.

In addition to this, we are also expanding our work to include talks and workshops to improve people’s knowledge of menstrual health and the options available.

We believe by overcoming the financial barrier to reusable menstrual products we can defeat period poverty in the UK for good.

  • Is period poverty an issue in the UK?

There has been a multitude of studies that show not only is period poverty an issue in the UK but it is on the rise, particularly following lockdown and a cost of living crisis.

Plan International UK found that 40% of girls had used toilet rolls as they were unable to afford period products. Another study found that 137,700 girls missed school in 2017 as they were unable to afford menstrual products (Independent, 2018).

  • How to I decide which size is best for me?

We designed our range with a variety of sizes to ensure there is something to suit everyone but this can seem a little confusing if you’re new to reusables.

Our range comes in 2 sizes types, body and flow. Body is the length of the pad and goes from XS to XL. Flow is the absorbency level of the pad, this includes Daily (Little to no absorbency, works like a pantyliner), Regular (Standard flow perfect for a regular period or light incontinence), or Heavy (Best for heavy periods, nighttime use, and incontinence). You will likely find you need a few different sizes for different times of your cycle and that it takes a bit of trial and error to find the right size for you.

  • Can I return items if I decide its not for me?

As menstrual products are a hygiene item we cannot accept returns under any circumstances. If your pad is damaged or in need of repair please contact us here and we will be happy to repair or replace it for you.
