Welcome to The SuPer Project

If you’ve found your way to our new website you probably want to know more about who we are and what we do. Well I hope our first blog post can answer some of your questions.

I think it’s important to start with why we do what we do. We strongly believe that no one in modern day Britain should be living in period poverty. Despite being something people often associate with the developing world, period poverty has been a rising issue in the UK for the last decade. Although there are schools, charities, corporations and food banks trying their best to support the issue the solution is often disposable options which not only feeds into big corporations but only sticks a plaster on the issue as opposed to trying to find a cure.

That’s where we come in, we believe that reusable sanitary wear can end period poverty for good as it can provide both a financially AND environmentally sustainable option to those in need. That’s why for every pad we sell we donate one to someone in the UK living in period poverty.

So what exactly is Reusable Sanitary Wear? Reusable Sanitary wear has a long and complex history but the basic premise is that its a sanitary item that you clean and reuse instead of throwing it away. Reusable sanitary wear comes in a range of different styles and types, including cups, pads and pants. If you’re new to reusable sanitary wear the range of products on the market can be overwhelming but the SuPer Project wants to help with that and ensure that no only is sanitary wear is accessible to all, but people have a better understanding of menstrual health and hygiene.

At The SuPer Project we sell reusable sanitary pads, designed and created by our team to ensure they are as absorbent as disposable pads whilst being way more comfortable and breathable. For every one we sell we donate one to someone living in or at high risk of period poverty. We are able to do this thanks to our fantastic volunteers who help with the production of the sanitary wear and therefore keeping our costs low.

Over the next few months we will be posting a series of blog posts to update on what were up to as well as taking a deeper dive into reusable sanitary wear and the issues surrounding it, so check back in for more info.

Love,

Mel
